Neurons in rodent cerebral cortex

Two neurons in Layer 4 of somatosensory cortex, filled with biocytin to reveal their structure. These are the first neurons in cerebral cortex to process touch information from the whiskers, and exhibit physiological and structural specializations that enable efficient transmission, coding, and learning of whisker input.
